Day 40 Wednesday 29 July 2026 Secret Harbour, WA by Brett Murrell

WHAT’S THE PLAN?

A brightly lit tobacconist shopfront at night.

Tobacco and vapes. What is the plan?

We need one, because right now we are building an illegal empire that makes billions of dollars out of a trade our own legislation created. Push the excise high enough and ban the product outright, and you do not remove the demand — you hand it to whoever is willing to break the law, tax free.

We have to act now and shut off that funding line for the crime syndicates.

The answer is not another ban. It is regulation: legal, controlled, taxed at a rate people will actually pay, with quality and contents known — and with Australian farmers and businesses able to take up the opportunity rather than watching the money go to organised crime and offshore suppliers.

The full policy and the numbers behind it: the memo · Tobacco & Vapes.
